‘When I started out with my Hilltown work I knew I wanted colour to be one of the main features. I always wanted people to see one of my Hilltowns and smile but to also recognise it for its styling, content and colour usage.
It was my fourth or Fifth painting that featured a Rainbow for the first time; ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’ went on to be one of my most popular images in the early years.
Rainbows, starry skies, the moon…these amazing visual treats of the sky never fail to impress and its something I also love to paint. I can use them to tell stories in my work and its something I never tire of painting.
I think the rainbow offers an escape as its almost magical and the themes of my work have always offered an escape from reality into a new, colourful and fantastical world; they’re also very colourful which just so happens to fit right in with my work’
