The Gentlemen Collection

The Gentlemen Collection

Gentlemen is a trilogy of paintings giving a respected nod to as some would refer to as three of the greatest poets, novelists, and artists.

Gentlemen is a collection of three abstract paintings, painted using mixed media on heavy artist paper. Mounted, and finished with black frames. Each piece has the added detail of book pages from one each authors greatest books.

Barrie started buy building texture and shape onto the paper using more artist paper and gel medium; this gives definition and depth to the finished result. By adding collage taken from old novels each painting gives a nod to a famous novelist, poet or textile designer. He also continues to add more collage into the painting adding shapes, patterns, and colour. This is where he adds more colour using acrylic paint in the form of glazes and acrylic ink using both complimentary and contrasting colours. Once this is all dried, he then over paints mainly in white which again will give more interest for the eye to rest and focus. For these three paintings the theme was leaves.

All three painting are bright and colourful, and the contrasting richness of the foreground gives depth and drama.

Sir Walter Scott

Sir Walter Scott the Scottish historical novelist, poet and playwright, this abstract painting is painted using warm complimentary tones of orange and pops of candy pink and forest green.

The painting features a fern and a page from a 1920 novel called Sir Walter Scott.

The paining has lots of richness and definition with pops of colour peeping through the layering of the paint as richness and texture.
