Barbara Anderson

Barbara was born in the North East and studied illustration at Liverpool Polytechnic. Iconic figures from music, stage and screen are often the inspiration for her work, with Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe offering some “old school glamour” Using mixed media techniques, liquid acrylics, stencils and cut-work her artwork also features her vintage map collection.
“I think there is something very romantic about old maps. I always wonder who owned them and where they went on their travels. I feel like they are given a new story when they become part of my pictures.”

Working to commission, Barbara has completed many bespoke pieces combining vintage maps, graphic stylised imagery and cut work. With requests for imagery as diverse as the Empire State Building (that’s a lot of cut work!) to a dodo on a Mauritius map, her work is hanging on walls far and wide. Her illustration work using liquid acrylics shows a softer side creating more fluid, subdued interpretations of the female form.
