Kevin moved to Durham in 2003 and quickly fell in love with the city. In 2011, the Durham World Heritage Centre commissioned two maps from him: Durham University and Durham’s pubs. In 2014, following the success of selling prints of these maps, Manuscript Maps was founded.
Kevin combines a knowledge of the history of medieval cartography and experience as an artist to create his cartography. Inspired by antique maps, Kevin hand-draws his originals, employing ink dip-pens with calligraphic nibs. Originals can take months to produce, but the results are worth the effort. Kevin’s philosophy is that careful scribing and drawing by hand, rather than relying on computers (as most modern mapmakers do), elevates his maps to fine art.
Kevin’s maps are available as signed & numbered prints, and he also accepts commissions for originals.
