Tony Erskine

Tony has always lived in the North East of England where he gained a degree in Graphic Design from Newcastle College of Art in 1967. He spent his working life as a graphic designer for Washington New Town, Tyne and Wear County Council and Northumbria Police Authority.

When Tony retired he joined Northern Print Studio in Newcastle and rekindled his interest in silkscreen printing. This is a medium in which he enjoys experimenting with illustration and flat areas of colour. Tony also paints in oils, watercolour and acrylic and often take inspiration from the beautiful north east coastline and surrounding areas.

‘I am often to be found on the local beaches collecting driftwood which I use to create mirrors, cupboards, candle holders and whatever the wood inspires.’

Photography is another of Tony’s interests and in 2013 he was the Evening Chronicle prizewinner for the Grand Central Trains photography competition. The image will be displayed on the Hart of the North train which travels between Sunderland and London Kings Cross.
