Looking almost like the Highwaymen of the skies, Waxwings have black mask-like pattern around their eyes and an impressive feathered crest. Kath has enhanced the brilliant colours of the Waxwing by using complimentary colours in the background of the Waxwing as he is perched on a branch. By using acrylics to paint this piece, Kath was able to achieve bold, opaque colours and allow for the Waxwing to stand out despite the mixing of colours in the background.
