Joanne Mitchell

Joanne Mitchell is a glass artist based at the renowned Lime Street Studios in Newcastle. She studied at Manchester Metropolitan University, graduating with first class honours, and went on to win a scholarship to study for a Masters Degree in Glass Product Design at the University of Wolverhampton.

Joanne set up her personal practice ‘Joanne Mitchell Glass Design’ in 2003, and then spent six years working in collaboration with artist Jessamy Kelly in a second creative business, ’Juo Ltd’, set up in 2006, producing innovative fused glass wall art and installations.

Juo won the Pearsons Prize in 2008 for ‘Best Use of Glass in Retail and Interior’ for their piece ‘Coastal Glacial’, commissioned by Newcastle Building Society for their flagship building in North Tyneside. Juo’s art installations include commissions for Newcastle PCT and a unique piece commissioned by Sunderland Council to represent the city in Harbin Museum, China
